Plan of Work

MSTC students must file and save an online Plan of Work (POW) after completing 15 hours of the program. The purpose of saving your POW is to allow you to discuss it with your advisor and make it available for department review. Please note: you will not submit your POW for approval until your final semester. Once you submit your POW, the Committee Chair, the DGP, and the Graduate School will approve it.

Filing Your POW:

You can find the POW in MyPackPortal > Student Self Service > Academic Records.

Please note the four different tabs at the top of the POW:

  1. Patent Agreement: You must sign this in order to be eligible for graduation.
  2. Plan of Work: Here is a brief tutorial from The Graduate School on how to complete your POW. For your POW, select the appropriate courses that satisfy your program/concentration requirements. You will select courses using the catalog, your transcript, etc. Add as many rows as you need to complete your POW. Refer to the MSTC program’s course requirements to ensure your POW is complete.
  3. Committee Tab: The MSTC program requires you to complete a capstone project. In this tab, you must enter your Committee Chair as your capstone advisor.
  4. Comment Tab: The Comment tab allows you to document special arrangements or program-specific requirements that are not built into the POW default structure. Use this feature:
    • to explain how you plan to fulfill your language requirement;
    • to identify transferred courses approved by the Graduate School and the requirements they fulfill;
    • to document course waivers; to list the title of your thesis; and
      to address other issues.

Cara Smelter (Graduate Programs Coordinator) will use the Comments system to confirm your fulfillment or waiver upon receiving appropriate documentation.
